The One Quality

Just one quality of the Buddha has to be remembered.

He consists only of one quality: witnessing.

This small word witnessing contains the whole of spirituality.

Witness that you are not the body.

Witness that you are not the mind.

Witness that you are only a witness.

As the witnessing deepens, you start becoming drunk with the divine.

That is what is called ecstasy.

The Method of Zen

The method of Zen is

To baffle, excite, puzzle and exhaust the intellect

Until it is realised that intellection is only thinking *about*

It will provoke, irritate and again exhaust the emotions

Until it is realised that emotion is only feeling *about*

And then it contrives when the disciple has been brought to an intellectual and emotional impasse

To bridge the gap between second-hand conceptual contact

With reality and first-hand experience.

~Alan Watts

Oneness

To me there is no difference between one person and another

I behold all as soul-reflections of the one God.

I can't think of anyone as a stranger, for I know that we are all part of the One Spirit.

~Paramahansa Yogananda

From a hologrammatic viewpoint

...You are one little physical image

that reflects all of humanity

When projected spiritually upon the cosmic screen.

Grandest Expression!

The Centered Being, fully expressed and in harmony with all!

Is there a process?

Zentao states that there is a fundamental approach to being that can be shown, demonstrated, heard....

A a process of seven steps is provided:

1. Essence - this one is simple: you are. Getting through the layers that cover the real you may not be so simple....

2. Recognition- recognizing that the "you" that you are - the essence, the Self, the Soul - wants to express who and what it is.

3. Foundation - knowing what you are and deciding to truly be that "you."

4. Development - the learning of principle and techniques that allow you to express (be and do outwardly) that which you are on the inside.

5. Inspiration - manifested expressions and intangible conceptualizations that help to inspire you to your end goal of expressing your true nature.

6. Passion - the driving force

7. Expression - the culmination, the actualized doing manifested.

...each individual - has a unique way of perceiving, that perception a part of the whole, no less and no more important than any other.

Each viewpoint is valuable. And the loss of any one is not just a loss to that individual, but to the greater whole of human understanding and growth.

Yet too few of us achieve true self-expression simply because we lack the knowledge of how to "just do it." We lack the knowledge, first, to recognise this desire to express. Then we fail to comprehend how to go about it. And often, even when we do learn the how's, we are afraid to present to the world the expressions of our own uniqueness for fear of rejection.

Whatever IS, IS

Meditation is something that is not contrived, organized.

Meditation IS.

It begins with the first step, which is to be free of all your psychological hurts, accumulated fears, anxiety, loneliness, despair, sorrow.

That is the foundation, that is the first step,

and the first step is the last step.

~J. Krishnamurti

The Master Stroke

The Great Way is not difficult
for those who have no preferences.
When love and hate are both absent
everything becomes clear and undisguised.
Make the smallest distinction however
and heaven and earth are set infinitely apart.
If you wish to see the truth
then hold no opinions for or against anything.

...

The Way is perfect like vast space
where nothing is lacking and nothing is in excess.
Indeed, it is due to our choosing to accept or reject
that we do not see the true nature of things.
Live neither in the entanglements of outer things,
nor in inner feelings of emptiness.
Be serene in the oneness of things and such
erroneous views will disappear by themselves.

....

When the mind exists undisturbed in the Way,
nothing in the world can offend,
and when a thing can no longer offend,
it ceases to exist in the old way.

When no discriminating thoughts arise,
the old mind ceases to exist.

...

Just let things be in their own way and
there will be neither coming nor going.

.....

If the eye never sleeps,
all dreams will naturally cease.
If the mind makes no discriminations,
the ten thousand things are as they
are, of single essence.
To understand the mystery of this One essence
is to be released from all entanglements.
When all things are seen equally
the timeless Self-essence is reached.
No comparisons or analogies are possible
in this causeless, relationless state.

Consider movement stationary
and the stationary in motion,
both movement and rest disappear.
When such dualities cease to exist
Oneness itself cannot exist.
To this ultimate finality
no law or description applies.

For the unified mind is accord with the Way
All self-centered striving ceases.
Doubts and irresolutions vanish
and life in true faith is possible.
With a single stroke we are free from bondage;
nothing clings to us and we hold to nothing.
All is empty, clear, self-illuminating,
with no exertion of the mind's power.
Here thought, feeling, knowledge, and
imagination are of no value.
In this world of Suchness
there is neither self nor other-than-self.

To come directly into harmony with this reality
just simply say when doubt arises, "Not two."

In this "not two" nothing is separate,
nothing is excluded.
No matter when or where,
enlightenment means entering this truth.
And this truth is beyond extension or
diminution in time or space:
in it a single thought is ten thousand years.

Emptiness here, Emptiness there,
but the infinite universe stands
always before your eyes.
Infinitely large and infinitely small;
no difference, for definitions have vanished
and no boundaries are seen.
So too with Being and non-Being.
Don't waste time in doubts and arguments
that have nothing to do with this.

~Verses on the Faith Mind
by Seng-Tsan, the third Zen patriarch, translated by Richard B. Clarke

Alchemical secret of transformation

...A single step and the journey is over.

That single step is to do everything watchfully.

You move your hand watchfully; you open your eyes watchfully; you walk, you take your steps alert, aware; you eat, you drink, but never allow mechanicalness to take possession over you. This is the only alchemical secret of transformation.

A man who can do everything fully consciously becomes a luminous phenomenon. He is all light, and his whole life is full of fragrance and flowers. The mechanical man lives in dark holes, dirty holes. He does not know the world of light; he is like a blind man. The man of watchfulness is really the man who has eyes.

...

The important thing is that you are watchful. Slowly, as the watcher becomes more and more stable, a transformation happens, at this time the things that you are watching disappear.

For the first time, the watcher itself becomes the watched, the observer itself becomes the observed.

YOU HAVE COME HOME.

The following qualities are essential in all different methods of meditation:

1. a relaxed state of mind, no fight within the mind, no control of the mind, and no concentration.

2. just watch with awareness whatever is going on, without any interference, just watch the mind silently, without any judgment or evaluation.

The Primal Impulse

One can never consent to creep when one feels an impulse to soar.

~Helen Keller
